About This ADU Build
This is a 1,200 square foot detached accessory dwelling unit that Axiom Renovation is building in Los Altos, California. The project is currently under construction, and we are documenting each stage with photos from the job site. We will keep this page updated as the build moves toward completion.
- Location: Los Altos, CA
- Type: Detached ADU (new construction)
- Size: 1,200 sq ft
- Permitting: City of Los Altos
- Electrical: 200-amp underground service upgrade, ADU fed from the main house panel, coordinated with PG&E
- Status: Under construction (insulation stage, October 2026)
Stage 1: Wall Framing
Framing started in early summer 2026. Our crew stood the exterior and interior walls, laid out to the approved City of Los Altos plans.
Stage 2: Vaulted Roof Framing
The roof was framed with exposed rafters to create a vaulted ceiling, which makes a 1,200 square foot unit feel larger and brighter inside.
Stage 3: Sheathing and Roof
Exterior walls were sheathed and the roof was closed in with deep eaves, getting the building weather-tight before rough-in work began.
Stage 4: Underground Electrical Service
The scope includes a 200-amp underground electrical service upgrade. Instead of adding a separate meter, the ADU is fed from the main house panel. We handled the trenching and coordinated the service work with PG&E.
Stage 5: Rough Plumbing and Shower Pan
Plumbing was roughed in, and the bathroom shower pan was built in place before walls were closed.
Stage 6: Insulation
As of October 2026, insulation is going in. Drywall and interior finishes are next.
